Liberty Village Unveils Bold New Identity!

Liberty Village Unveils Bold New Identity with Public Art, Placemaking, and Community-Focused Programs

Toronto, ON – November 19, 2025 – The Liberty Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) is proud to announce a major milestone, securing a 300% increase in grant funding, totalling $200,000, to fuel local businesses, community placemaking projects, events, and neighbourhood improvements during ongoing transit construction. This investment will help lay the groundwork for a revitalized Liberty Village in 2026.

The newly secured funding will support a range of economic development initiatives designed to enhance streetscape aesthetics, amplify the area's branding, and boost digital visibility, all while preparing Liberty Village for its next phase of growth. Key to these efforts is the launch of two exciting campaigns: Liberty Through the Lens and Work From Liberty, made possible through the City of Toronto’s Construction Mitigation Grant Program and the Government of Canada's Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

Key initiatives include:

  • Liberty Through the Lens: A dynamic, large-scale outdoor photo exhibition located at 34 Hanna Avenue, celebrating the evolution of Liberty Village, which will run through 2026.

  • Work From Liberty: A campaign designed to engage employers and landlords, providing marketing kits, including the Liberty Insider’s Guide, BIA e-gift cards, and posters to encourage tenants to embrace the local experience.

  • A refreshed Liberty Village identity and an enhanced web platform to modernize the neighbourhood’s digital presence.

  • Wayfinding and signage upgrades to improve navigation through the area, addressing construction challenges.

  • Public realm design updates, including the transformation of a parking lot into a vibrant parkette, are designed to prioritize pedestrian safety and placemaking.

  • Collaborative community programming with local partners and property owners to foster engagement and support.

These initiatives aim to drive foot traffic, celebrate Liberty Village's creative energy, and provide a lifeline for over 600 local businesses and offices to thrive during construction.

“Liberty Village is far more than a construction site; it’s a thriving, creative community that continually adapts and remains dynamic,” said Abhi Kathuria, Director of the Liberty Village BIA. “This funding is vital in helping us support local businesses and showcase the neighbourhood’s resilience and vibrancy.”

The funds will specifically go toward strengthening Liberty Village’s branding, revitalizing public spaces, and enhancing streetscape renewal efforts as the area gears up for major global events like the 2026 World Cup.

“These investments demonstrate how art, business, and community can come together to turn disruption into opportunity,” said Sandy Weir, Chair of the Liberty Village BIA. “We’re excited to invite residents, employees, and visitors to experience Liberty Village in new and exciting ways.”
