Celebrating Women in Liberty Village for IWD 2019

The Liberty Village BIA is proud to be celebrating International Women’s Day by recognizing and celebrating the talents, achievements and leadership of women in our community.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we asked Liberty Village business community to submit the names of women they felt deserved to be highlighted. The community answered the call, thank you to all who put names forward to recognize employees, coworkers, connections and friends; special thank you to the men for being allies and amplifying women’s voices.

If you wish to join us in celebrating IWD 2019, it is not too late to participate! On Friday March 8th, post on Instagram using the hashtags #IWD2019inLV #BalanceforBetter and tagging @LIBERTYVILLAGEBIA, we’ll share your posts in our story, and make a compilation of them in a blog post published later in March.

You can also visit our Facebook and Instagram channels throughout the day to help us amplify women’s voices by liking, commenting and sharing the achievements the community is sharing!

A new addition to the Give Me Liberty Event this year was the Pet Fashion Show sponsored by Pet Valu Liberty Village. We extended an invitation to all neighbourhood pets to represent their furry friends in Liberty Village, and they did not disappoint. Liberty Village judges picked their Top 3 Best Dressed Pets and they were awarded with a prize from Pet Valu Liberty Village. They all looked amazing, and each one got a prize for participating!

She performed her debut single “Carnival Hearts” which is a Top 40 hit across Canada; and her latest single, “What You’re Made Of,” cracked the Top 20 and continues to climb!

Liberty Talks Speakers’ Series presents Terry O’Reilly, “Don’t Outspend Them, Outsmart Them”

The Liberty Village BIA will be presenting its Liberty Talks Speakers’ Series featuring Terry O’Reilly.

In a world where most advertisers don’t have huge budgets to trounce the competition, where small advertisers are up against deeper pockets, and where not–for–profit communicators struggle to make an impact, there is a way to gain remarkable returns.

Our Liberty Talks Speakers’ Series, “Don’t Outspend them; Outsmart Them” was an amazing success! On Thursday, March 8 at 4:30 to 7:30 pm at The Avenue at the Bakery (York Heritage Properties), 2 Fraser Street in Liberty Village, we welcomed over 200 guests to enjoy an inspiring marketing presentation by Terry O’Reilly.

About Terry O’Reilly

Terry is a Canadian broadcast producer and personality, best known as host of the CBC Radio One series, “O’Reilly on Advertising”, “The Age of Persuasion”, and most recently “Under the Influence”.

The Event, “Don’t Outspend them; Outsmart Them”

The event began with a networking session from 4:30-5:30pm.

Our event sponsor, Beanfield Metroconnect, provided the drinks

Catering by Maizal provided plenty of food from a Charcuterie Board, to Potato Tacos, Pork Sopecitos and Jam Cookies.

Terry presented from 5:30 – 6:45 pm, with a Q&A session that would follow.

Terry O’Reilly’s 10 Words of Wisdom

  • “Don’t default to conventional messages and clichés”
  • “When someone tells you that’s the way we do it around here, that’s called The Death of Marketing
  • “Always zig when everyone else zags”
  • “The solution is always hiding inside the obstacle”
  • “Break the rules creatively”
  • “Think outside the confines of your category – think like a marketer”
  • “Creativity loves constraint, but solutions are born from hunches.”
  • “Find meaning behind the facts and use creativity to fuel the idea”
  • “Make people feel your messages, not just understand them”
  • “Don’t spend money, spend creativity”

Also, thank you to York Heritage Properties for donating the space for the evening.

Stay tuned for our next Liberty Talks Speakers’ Series and more networking events!

Beanfield is Granted Naming Rights

Beanfield will soon be seen from the Go Trains and from the Gardiner Expressway as employees head into Liberty Village on their daily commutes. Effective March 1, 2017, the current Allstream Centre will be rebranded and renamed to the Beanfield Centre. On January 10th, 2017, it was officially announced by Exhibition Place of this exciting new partnership.

Outstanding Community Work

We all know Beanfield are amazing folks with big hearts and innovative technology. Creating their roots here in Liberty Village and still calling it home as they grow is really special. The LVBIA is always extremely appreciative of their continued ongoing support and sponsorship of our annual Give Me Liberty Event.

On the residents’ side of Liberty Village, they have helped light up the park during the holidays. In the summer, they set help set up and host 3 movie nights in the park bringing hundreds of people out to enjoy a flick and the company of one another.

Beyond Liberty Village

LV - Beanfield Office
Beanfield is expanding its footprint throughout Toronto.

Many more neighbourhoods are now able to receive the reliable networks and amazing customer service we have come to expect beyond Liberty Village. Beanfield won the contract to provide the network infrastructure for the 2015 Pan Am Games. Another notable area that they are helping to connect is the Waterfront Toronto which will include the future development of the Waterfront Development Centre. Residential service is also expanding.

Allstream Centre Becomes the Beanfield Centre

Beanfield Centre

As of March 1, 2017, the Allstream centre will transition its identity to become the Beanfield Centre. The press release issued by Exhibition Place states, “…Toronto City Council has approved a multi-year sponsorship agreement between Exhibition Place and Beanfield Metroconnect for the title sponsorship of the conference venue to be called Beanfield Centre”. Meetingscanada.com notes that the conference venue is LEED Silver certified and is 160000 square feet.

A big congratulations is in order for Beanfield on this fantastic feat!
