Working or living in Liberty Village can be done with minimal to no impact on our environmental footprint. The LVBIA has many options to help support everyone’s transportation to and from work through transit discounts, car sharing options, and being bike friendly.
A few companies have taken great strides to ensure that their vehicle fuel consumption is offset with electrical power. The benefits of having an electric car versus a gas powered one is that they produce fewer tailpipe emissions. The City of Toronto states, “Local air quality studies confirm that tailpipe emissions are a main source of air pollution that negatively affects the health of Toronto residents.” Both Beanfield and Flow Water use electric or hybrid vehicles to support their businesses. Some property groups have invested in electrical charging stations such as The Fueling Station and the Toronto Carpet Factory.
TTC Metropass Discount Program
For many years, the LVBIA has taken pride in being able to offer its member businesses and employees a discount on a monthly TTC Metropass to help everyone get to and from work. Every month, more and more companies are joining the program to take advantage of the significant savings. Currently, we are able to sell transit passes for $128.75 instead of a $146.25 for a savings of $17.50 per month. As the only BIA in the City of Toronto offering such a program, it also makes the us one of the top 3 bulk purchasers of transit passes in the city! Email us at email@example.com for more specific details.
Cycling is an awesome way to get exercise and can also serve a practical purpose of getting to work. The LVBIA has 15 bike lockers that are rented out to various individuals to allow them to safely store their bike. In addition, there are ample racking systems outside of many buildings to allow safe and easy storage. If you don’t have a bike of your own, consider a short term rental from Bike Share Toronto. Banks of these bikes can be found around Liberty Village near the corner of Liberty Street and Fraser Avenue, and at Liberty Village Park just to name a couple. We also have a wonderful store and service in the neighborhood strictly dedicated to cycling called Liberty Street Cyclery should you have any bike equipment related questions or concerns.
Car Sharing Community
Once in awhile, we need instant access to a vehicle. Instead of having maintenance costs, car payments and insurance fees to deal with, consider joining a car sharing program and everything is rolled into one fee. At Lamport Stadium, 50 parking spots are dedicated to the use of Car 2 Go vehicles. A few Enterprise Car Share spots are also found at the Toronto Carpet Factory. Various sized vehicles can be used, depending on each individual’s needs.
As a program of Metrolinx, and serving the municipalities of Toronto and Hamilton, Smart Commute has the goal of easing traffic congestion and finding alternative commuting methods such as cycling, carpooling, and public transportation routes. The LVBIA is a proud and recognized Gold Workplace of the Smart Commute program. We are the only BIA in the City of Toronto to be involved with Smart Commute. Thank you Liberty Village for your continued commitment to sustainable transportation!
