Rewind in time to 10, 15 or even 20 years ago and dogs would be seldom allowed into the workplace, if at all, unless they were a service dog. Now, in 2016, many workplaces have become very accepting of having canines in the office or work space and Liberty Village is no exception.

We don’t have to look too far to see a handful of dogs roaming the streets of Liberty Village either being walked or walking their owners at any given time. For some people, they get to take their dog into the office with them. Studies have shown that having a dog in the workplace creates a more positive work environment. An article by Fast Company outlines some other great benefits which include better relationships between human coworkers, improved client relationships, lowered stress and increased productivity.

Bringing Fido to work can be awesome, but ensuring that he is well set up and comfortable is key. Make sure to double check and make sure that your building and office are dog friendly before showing up with Fido in tow. Dogtime.com outlines some useful tips to help make the office feel like home for a dog. Ensuring that small items like writing utensils and small knick knacks are cleared out of the way is helpful, as well as emptying small garbage cans often to avoid any unwanted messes. A comfortable bed or blanket is a must so that the dog can lie down comfortably. Don’t forget to also bring their favourite treats and a toy to keep them preoccupied when needed. The boss and other coworkers probably won’t appreciate mucky feet trotting around the office, so make sure to have cleaning supplies to use when necessary.

With some proactive measures, everyone can enjoy the company of a dog or two or three in their work space.

Sometimes it is not always appropriate to have a dog running around and barking when big executives or important meetings are about to take place. Consider some resources to help make everything less stressful and a win-win for both human and canine. There are many dog walking services available that could be utilized so while that important meeting takes place, Fido is out stretching his legs and playing outside. Have to participate in an all day workshop or off-site visit? We are lucky to have Pack of Paws located at 105 Jefferson Ave which is a doggy day care.
